Shopping List

I got my taxes done today, and I am so excited that, for the first time ever, I am getting a BIG refund (BIG = over $150.  Thank you, Judy from H&R block).  Of course, this is due to the fact that 2012 was my first full year at my big girl job.

Needless to say, I am planning a shopping trip in the near future.  Being the super-shopper that I am, I feel that it is important to shop prepared.  So, I am trying to make a list of items I need/want.  I want to make sure that I buy items that can be used for multiple outfits, so probably a lot of neutrals that can be spiced up with jewelry.  I do tend to gravitate toward bright colors and loud prints, but I think these need to be kept to tops and jewelry (simply to save money-as much as I love the idea of bright patterned pants, I know I probably won’t wear them that often.  Although I still love the idea, so you never know…).  So anyway, as I said, I am trying to compile a list.  But I am having kind of a hard time, so I need a little help!

All I have on my list so far, for sure, are a peplum top (probably white-like I said, neutrals!) and a pair of nude wedges.  Obviously my spring wardrobe is going to need more than these two items.  Help me, people!  Tell me what to buy!

On another note, who watched the Academy Awards last night?!?  I am absolutely OBSESSED with Jennifer Lawrence, and I am so glad she won best actress.  I have the biggest girl crush on her.

Well, the Bachelor is about to start, so I’m outie!  But again I beseech you all…help me with the shopping list!  And have a great week =)

A Few Of My Favorite Things

Currently listening to: Below My Feet by Mumford & Sons

Well, it is time again for me to share some of my favorite pins from Pinterest.  But first…a quick side note.  I saw Mumfor & Sons last week in Fairfax, VA!  It was one of the most incredible concerts I have ever been to, if not THE most incredible (in close competition with Coldplay).  One of my friends and I got last minute tickets to the show.  We were super excited because we had looked at tickets when they first went on sale, and the cheapest we could find with more than one seat together were about $400!  Which was obviously way to expensive.  Then about a week before the show we (and by we I mean she, she is way more clever than I am) scored two tickets for $59.  We thought the seats may suck, but we didn’t care because we were just so pumped to see them.  And as it turns out, the seats were way better than expected.  So here are a few pictures!

And now onto our regularly scheduled post…a few of my favorite things from Pinterest.  Enjoy!

Obviously I am a little obsessed with Mumford & Sons right now.

Love love LOVE this outfit.  Perfect for spring.  I feel like this would be the perfect outfit to wear to a music festival this year…hopefully this can happen for me.

As a nurse, this picture just warms my heart.

The only thing cuter than a baby platypus wearing a fedora?  TWO baby platypuses (platypy?) wearing fedoras.  Precious.

Hope you enjoyed!  And as a quick reminder…it is almost the weekend!  So all of you with normal jobs, enjoy yourselves!  I will instead be working 36 hours, so think of me!

Getting Bikini Ready

Bikini season is fast approaching!  Time to make some changes.

One area of my life in which I know I need to improve is health and fitness.  I LOVE to eat.  I mean, it is just one of my favorite pastimes.  When it comes to actual meals, I am generally not too terribly unhealthy (except for an occasional Mexican food binge); however, I have a major sweet tooth.  Brownies and cheesecake are my weaknesses.

My job also contributes to my unhealthy eating.  I am a stress eater, and nursing is most definitely a stressful job (ever wonder why so many nurses are so fat?).  On top of that, I work nightshift, which means that at approximately 1:30am  every night I am working I start craving greasy pizza and M&Ms.  All day long when I am at home, I can make myself eat healthily.  But in the middle of the night I just have no self control.

Fortunately, I have always been naturally on the skinny side.  I am blessed with good genetics (so far, anyway).  For the most part I can eat what I want without worrying too much about gaining weight.  I realize, though, that this is not going to last forever, and I need to get into the habit of eating more healthily.

I do work out regularly.  I try to get to the gym four to five days a week, and if I can’t, I have a few workout DVDs I like to rotate through.  Sometimes, though, I have a hard time getting motivated, and even though I exercise regularly I don’t really feel like my body has changed that much.

So one project I want to work on is changing the way I eat and the way I exercise.  I don’t have a specific plan yet, so any help would be greatly appreciated!  I am not trying to lose any weight, but I want to totally overhaul my lifestyle so that I am healthier and more fit (fitter?).  And, of course, I want to get more toned for bikini season.  Who doesn’t want to look like a Victoria’s Secret Angel?

I will be documenting my progress on here for accountability.  I am going to research recipes and exercise plans, and I would love to hear from anyone who has any ideas or advice for me!

A Few Of My Favorite Things

Something you should know about me?  I have an unhealthy addiction to Pinterest.  Seriously.  I LOVE Pinterest.  I can kill tons of time on there, especially when I am bored at work at 3am, and I really have found some great inspirations and ideas.

So, in honor of my devotion to Pinterest, I feel it is only appropriate to share some of my favorite pins with you all.  I will try to do this about once a week, in order to nurture your addictions to Pinterest as well =)  These posts will be called “A Few Of My Favorite Things.”

1.  I am obsessed with this outfit.  The pants, the shoes, the BAG.  Where does one find a bag like that?  I want it!

2.  This lovely home is, in a word, perfect.  I love spending time at home now, but if I lived here, I would never leave.  Actually, I would probably just stand outside and gaze at its loveliness all the time.

3.  My mom is an interior designer, and she has instilled a passion for pretty living spaces in me as well.  My own apartment needs a lot of work, but it is getting there!  I love a good gallery wall, and I am working on one now.  Pictures of my own to come!  Eventually.

4.  Looking at this elephant just puts a smile on my face!

I hope you enjoyed my posts!  Do you use Pinterest?  What are some of your favorite things to pin?

I am writing my first post while watching “The Lion King.”  I can think of no better inspiration.

Remember when you were five, and you thought your life would be, like, phenomenal by your 20s?  When I was five, my biggest problem was that my parents almost didn’t buy me “The Lion King” when it came out on VHS, until I threw a temper tantrum in the middle of the mall (**disclaimer: I wasn’t usually that kind of kid, but this was SERIOUS). I totally knew what I wanted to be when I grew up, and my life was going to be awesome.

When I was that age, I am pretty sure I thought I was going to be an astronaut at 23, the age I am now.  Fast forward to 7th grade—I thought I was going to be a lawyer.  In 9th grade, I planned on becoming a journalist; in 11th grade, I was going to do international business and travel the world; and by senior year, I was planning on becoming a psychologist.  It goes without saying that at every age I assumed I would also be married to Prince Charming by 23.

Then I started college, and my plans changed yet again.  After a year of gen eds, I decided to change my major to Nursing.  And I stuck with this.  I graduated (a semester late) with my BSN, and have been working as an RN for a year now.

So here I am, with my big girl job, living on my own in my big girl apartment, with my cat.  And you know what?  I STILL feel like I don’t know what I want to be when I grow up.  And, after a lot of brooding and whatnot the past year, I have decided that that is ok.

I am hoping to use this blog to make the best of my life as it is now.  I may not be exactly where I want, or where I thought I would be right now, but my life is actually pretty good.  I will probably write, on occasion, about being a 20-something, because it can be a really difficult and misunderstood time in a person’s life.  But I also want to share with you all the things in life that I love, be it clothes, music, books or my cat.  Or pretty much anything else.   I hope you all enjoy what you see and read on here!
